ATLANTA BRAVES FALL TO NEW YORK METS IN SERIES CLOSER IN THE BIG APPLE

Written by Matt Davis on August 13, 2012. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves lost to the New York Mets 6-5 in the series closer between the teams at New York’s Citi Field last night.

Highlights of the game for the Braves included a solo home run from Freddie Freeman in the top of the second inning.

The Braves were down 6-1 going into the ninth and posed a threat to the Mets in that inning with four runs, including a two-run double from Martin Prado.  However, that’s all she wrote for the Braves and they ended up losing to the Mets, again, by a final score of 6-5.

Ben Sheets took the loss; he gave up eight hits and five runs in six innings of work.

The Braves took wins in two of their three games with the Mets over the weekend.  Thus ends a six game road trip that began in Philadelphia against the Phillies and left the Braves with four wins and two losses.  The Braves are currently four and a half games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East (who lost to Arizona yesterday) and nine and a half games ahead of the third place Mets.

The Braves return home to Turner Field in Atlanta for a seven game home stand that begins tonight and will include four games with the San Diego Padres and three with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  First pitch of tonight’s game is set for 7:10 pm.  The game will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ, Rome’s original home for Atlanta Braves baseball.  Air time for the pre-game show is 5:55 pm from the Atlanta Braves radio network.
