ATLANTA BRAVES EXTEND NLDS WITH LOS ANGELES DODGERS TO A GAME FOUR

Written by Matt Davis on October 8, 2018. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves’ run in the 2018 MLB postseason lives to see another day as they edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 on Sunday night at SunTrust Park in game three of the National League Division Series, forcing a Game Four in the best of five set.

Atlanta took an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to a bases-loaded walk by Sean Newcomb and a grand slam by Ronald Acuna Jr.  At the age of 20, Acuna is the youngest player to hit a postseason grand slam; this milestone was previously set by Mickey Mantle at age 21 in 1953.

But LA came charging back with a pair of runs in the top of the third and tied the ballgame with three runs in the fifth, including a two-run shot from Chris Taylor and a solo home run by Max Muncy.

Freddie Freeman came through for the Braves with a tie-breaking solo homer off of former Atlanta pitcher Alex Wood in the bottom of the sixth.

Wood took the loss for LA.  Touki Toussaint got the win in relief and Arodys Vizcaino got the save for Atlanta.

LA maintains a 2-1 lead in the set.  Game four is scheduled for 4:30 pm this afternoon at SunTrust Park.  It will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 with air time set for 3:15 pm.

Game five of the NLDS between the Braves and the Dodgers, if necessary, is slated for Wednesday in LA.
