ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE TO MIAMI MARLINS

Written by Matt Davis on August 7, 2017. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game set at SunTrust Park, denying the Braves a sweep of the Marlins over the weekend.

Marcell Ozuna led the charge for Miami with a three-run homer off rookie Lucas Sims in the top of the first inning.

That was immediately followed by a solo shot from JT Realmuto.  Those were the only runs surrendered by Sims, who took the loss for Atlanta after also giving up six hits, walking two and striking out three in six innings.

An RBI single from Ender Inciarte in the bottom of the sixth accounted for the Braves’ only run of the day.

Jose Urena was credited with the win for Miami; he gave up just one run and three hits, walked one and struck out three over six innings.

The Braves are off tonight and will welcome the Philadelphia Phillies to town on Tuesday night for game one of a brief two-game set at SunTrust Park.  The outing is scheduled to get underway at 7:35 pm and will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 6:20 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Asheville Tourists 3-2 in the rain-shortened finale of a four game set (and seven-game homestand) at State Mutual Stadium on Sunday.  It was the Braves’ 11th straight victory; tying a team record for consecutive wins.  They’ll be in Augusta tonight to take on the Greenjackets at 7:05 pm.
