ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE AT HOUSTON

Written by Matt Davis on May 11, 2017. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Houston Astros 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a brief two-game interleague set at Minute Maid Park out in Houston, Texas, allowing the Astros to take the series and extending the Braves’ current losing streak to six straight games.

Atlanta took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with solo home runs from Freddie Freeman and Adonis Garcia.  But the Astros surged ahead with three runs off Braves starter Jamie Garcia in the bottom of the fifth, including a two-run double from Carlos Correa.

The Braves had an opportunity to make a comeback with two out and the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning when Matt Kemp (unfortunately) struck out swinging.

Jamie Garcia was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs and six hits, walking five and striking out four in six innings.  Joe Musgrove got the win and Ken Giles picked up the save for Houston.

The Braves are off tonight and will return to action this weekend with a three-game series in Miami against the Marlins.  First pitch of Friday night’s opener is scheduled for 7:10 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 5:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves opened a seven-game homestand with an 8-7 victory over the Hagerstown Suns in 10 innings on Wednesday night at State Mutual Stadium.  The teams are slated to meet again this morning at 10:30 am in the middle outing of a three-game set.
