ATLANTA BRAVES DROP OUTING, SERIES TO SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS AT SUNTRUST PARK

Written by Matt Davis on May 7, 2018. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves fell to the San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in the conclusion of a three-game weekend set at SunTrust Park, allowing the Giants to sweep the series.

Atlanta took an early lead on an RBI single from Tyler Flowers that brought Ronald Acuna Jr. to home plate in the bottom of the first.  But San Francisco surged ahead with two runs in the top of the third, including this tie-breaking single from Pablo Sandoval.

The Giants added insurance with two more runs in the top of the fourth.  The Braves attempted to make a comeback with a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, but ultimately lost the contest, again, by a final score of 4-3.

Mike Soroka took the loss for Atlanta in his debut at SunTrust Park; he gave up four runs and seven hits, walked three and struck out three over just four innings of work.  Andrew Suarez picked up the win, while Hunter Strickland got the save for San Francisco.

The Braves maintain first place of the National League East with 19 wins and 14 losses on the season.  They will take today off and will return to action on Tuesday evening with game one of a two-game interleague set in Tampa Bay against the Rays.  First pitch is set for 7:10 pm.  The outing will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 5:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves lost to the Asheville Tourists 8-3 on Sunday at State Mutual Stadium.  Those two teams will meet again today at 10:30 am.
