Written by Matt Davis on July 10, 2017. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves closed out the first half of the 2017 season with a loss to the Washington Nationals 10-5 in the finale of a four game set at Nationals Park in Washington DC on Sunday, settling for a 2-2 split in the series.

Highlights for the Braves included a three-run homer from Freddie Freeman in the top of the third inning that tied the ball game 3-3.

Johan Camargo had three hits, including a solo home run – his first in the majors – in the top of the sixth.

Sean Newcomb took the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs and four hits, walking four and striking out seven over just four innings.  His exit was followed by a battle of the bullpens, with the Nats ending up on the winning end, again, by a final score of 10-5.

With Sunday’s loss, the Braves finished the first half of the season at just under .500 with 42 wins and 45 losses.  It is now time for the MLB All-Star break; Atlanta will open the second half on Friday night at SunTrust Park with a match against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
