THIS IS ARBOR DAY IN GEORGIA

Written by Matt Davis on February 17, 2017. Posted in News/Weather

Today is Arbor Day in Georgia.  Arbor Day, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission, is a day set aside for schools, civic organizations and other groups as well as individuals to reflect on the importance of trees in our state and nationwide.

Georgia Power is reminding its customers of the importance of making the right landscaping choices by planting the right tree in the right place as doing so can decrease the likelihood of a power outage during ice storms, thunderstorms and even on a clear day.  The company offers free resources and tips for planting the right tree in the right place, including an illustrated planting guide, online at www.georgiapower.com/trees.

The City of Rome will observe Arbor Day with a special ceremony at the city’s iconic Clocktower this morning at 10 am.  The event will feature a rededication and ribbon cutting for improvements that have been made to the Clocktower over the past year.

In 1941, the Georgia General Assembly designated the third Friday of each February as Arbor Day across the state.

By the way, a dedication ceremony for the new GE Trails is scheduled for this Saturday at 1 pm.  It will be hosted by TRED at 1935 Redmond Circle.  The project is the result of a public-private partnership with the City of Rome and TRED.
