ANNUAL CROSSTOWN RIVALRY TO BE REVIVED BETWEEN BERRY, SHORTER TONIGHT IN COLLEGE HOOPS

Written by Matt Davis on January 23, 2012. Posted in Sports

In your local college basketball update from over the weekend, the Berry Lady Vikings defeated Spelman 82-60 on Saturday afternoon at the Cage Center on the Berry College campus.

It will be a big night for local college basketball tonight as the crosstown rivalry between Berry College and Shorter University is revived at the annual Seven Hills Rotary Classic.  The Classic will be played this year at Shorter University’s Winthrop King Centre.  The Lady Hawks and Lady Vikings will go head to head at 6 pm.  The Hawks, who are as yet undefeated and hold the top spot in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll, will face the Vikings at 8 pm.  The games will be broadcast on both WLAQ AM 1410 and 95.7 FM The Ridge and online at www.wlaq1410.com and www.theridge957.com.

Tonight’s basketball games are a part of the annual Rome-Seven Hills Rotary Basketball Classic for Literacy.  According to a Shorter University sports release, members of the club will be in attendance at the games, taking donations and selling t-shirts with all proceeds going towards the Club’s Childhood Literacy Reading Program, which aims to supply books to underprivileged children in Rome and Floyd County.
