ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE HAS EMERGED ONCE AGAIN AS COLLEGE FOOTBALL’S NATIONAL CHAMPS!

Written by Matt Davis on January 9, 2018. Posted in Sports

The Alabama Crimson Tide has emerged once again as college football’s National Champions!  No. 4 Alabama clinched the title with a 26-23 overtime win over the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Tua Tagovailoa threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith in the overtime period to lead the Tide to victory.

Georgia took a 13-0 lead at halftime, after which Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts was replaced by Tagovailoa.  The Crimson Tide went on to outscore the Dawgs during the second half of the game 20-7.  Kicker Andy Pappanastos missed a 36-yard field goal that would have given the Tide the win in the final seconds of regulation.  The Dawgs struck first in the overtime period on a 51-yard field goal from Roderigo Blankenship.  But the Tide emerged as victor in the thriller at the Benz.

This marks Alabama’s fifth title under head coach Nick Saban since 2009; it is their 17th overall.  Saban is 12-0 against former assistants with the win over Georgia’s head coach Kirby Smart.
