AEROBATIC CONTEST TO TAKE PLACE AT RUSSELL REGIONAL AIRPORT THIS WEEKEND

Written by Matt Davis on June 7, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

High-flying competition is poised to take to the skies above Rome’s Russell Regional Airport as Chapter Three of the International Aerobatic Club is set to host their annual Southeast Aerobatic Championships (or ‘the Bear Creek Bash’) over the weekend.

Mark Fullerton, director of the contest, says that this year’s event will feature a record number of participants.  The slate of competitors includes members of the US Advanced Team, for whom the local contest will serve as a tune-up for the World Aerobatic Championship to be held in Romania in August.    Fullerton believes that the southern hospitality offered by this community is a big draw for the Rome event.

The majority of this year’s participants are from the southeastern US, attests Fullerton, although some of them will be in town from as far away as Iowa, North Dakota and California.

Today will serve as a practice (and arrival) day for participants. Competition is scheduled to take place this Friday and Saturday; Sunday will also serve as a competition day, if necessary.
