AEROBATIC COMPETITION TO RETURN TO ROME’S RUSSELL REGIONAL AIRPORT THIS WEEK

Written by Matt Davis on June 4, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

Aerobatic competition will return to the skies over Rome’s Russell Regional Airport this week as Chapter Three of the International Aerobatic Club hosts its annual Southeast Aerobatic Championships (or ‘the Bear Creek Bash’).

Thursday will be a practice day for participants. Competition is scheduled to take place this Friday and Saturday; Sunday will also serve as a competition day, if necessary, according to airport manager Mike Mathews.

The competition highlights the talents of some of the best aerobatic pilots in the country, whose performances are judged by their peers, states Mathews.  As with any endeavour, practice for such competition makes perfect.

Mathews invites the public to view the high-flying competition.  He adds that it’s not quite the same thing as an air show, but it’s entertaining.

For members of the US Advanced Team, this will be their final practice prior to the World Aerobatic Championship to be held this August in Romania.
