SOME 22 TRAFFIC FATALITIES REPORTED FOR YEAR-END HOLIDAYS

A total of 22 people lost their lives on the state’s roadways during the year-end holidays, according to the final holiday traffic count for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday travel periods from the Georgia State Patrol released on Tuesday.

There were a total of 11 fatal crashes that resulted in 11 deaths during the 78-hour Christmas holiday travel period, which began at 6 pm on Friday, December 23rd and ended at midnight on Monday, December 26th.

The New Year’s holiday travel period also lasted 78-hours.  It got underway on Friday, December 30th at 6 pm and concluded at midnight on Monday, January 2nd and resulted in 10 fatal crashes with 11 deaths.

In 2015, both travel periods were 78-hours long.  A total of 16 traffic fatalities were reported during that time.
